TRV's or zone valves?

I want to add thermostats to four 2nd floor radiators since this floor is typically hotter than the 1st floor. We have a 1-pipe steam system with narrow radiators (convectors?) that are recessed into the walls. They are only approx 3 inch depth. The current vent relief valves screw into the rear of the units, and there is very little space. The attached photo shows one of the radiators and a spare vent valve typical of the ones at the back of the radiators.
Can anyone recommend thermostatic valve that can fit into this application, or is this a place for zone valves (ugh)?

Have you tried balancing the system yet? Main venting is up to par? Rads vents changed and adjusted as required?
You really should try and get the balance right or as good as it can be, before adding TRV's.0 -
I would do as @KC_Jones recommends. It may or may not be possible to drill and tap for a trv in a different location on the radiator if it won't work in the existing vent location0
