Can someone explain how the Honywell switching relay works on a steam system with Baseboard hotwater in the basement coming out of the steam boiler

    What relay is it? There should be a number on it somewhere, lots of different variations on the 'honeywell switching relay'

    my guess is that you have an aquastat relay that fires the boiler until it reaches 180 or 190 degrees, and also turns on a pump for the baseboard zone.

    Are you having problems with it?

    Most likely the switching relay turns on the HW circulator pump at the direction of the thermostat located in the HW zone.
