I have a few old radiators that make that loud expansion noise occasionally . Distinctly different sound than a water hammer. Is there any way to fix the noise? Thanks.

Yes, there is! I had the same issue. I put furniture coasters under the radiators' legs and everything is quiet now.0

You can also try a piece of a milk bottle0

Just went through this myself. Try tightening the tie rod/s. People have warned that they break easily, so be careful. I tightened mine to 22 pound feet.0
