EFM 520 Highboy

Hello all,
New to the site. I'm about to embark, weather permitting, on a steam boiler install. I bought a 1953 EFM "Highboy". It has a Fitzgibbons boiler. My house has a one pipe steam system. My question is what size should my header be? The boiler currently has a 2" bushing in it from a previous hydronic system. Will 2" work for steam? Thanks

Are you sure your "new" boiler can handle steam?
How many taps are in it for supply?
You need to know your connected EDR.
What is the existing steam boiler.
    Pictures of both would help.

    1. measure the installed radiation and determine the load
    2. . Select your new boiler
    3. Download or get a copy of the boiler manual and pipe it the way the manual shows.
    4. That's a start, also check your venting

    Is the old one leaking?
What is on label of the new one.
Rated for steam and water pressure?
    Taps for sight glass? LWCO?

EFM builds a lot of new DF520 coal stokers every year and they can burn both Anthracite and Bituminous rice coal.

The EFM manual is sadly lacking any information about pipe size for the header. I suggest looking at the installation manual for a current steam boiler, like a Weil McLain Gold. You will see that they recommend a minimum pipe size of 2.5" for that EDR. If you are going to take on removing that 2" bushing, you might as well run a 3" riser & header.
