Caleffi 1" ZV Q

Anyone install the 6442 zone valves before.
Super high Cv.
Ball valve operation.
Union connections.
They look like they wire a bit different.
6 wires.
Can they be used in a Taco EXP ZV relay?
thanks...

The valve needs power to open, and power to close. It is not a spring return valve.
It consumes no power when fully open or fully closed.

6 wires are common, power open, power close, ground, 2-end switch

Here are a few wiring options, as you need a double throw relay to operate it.

The Caleffi single zone ZSR is a double pole, same wiring for the two way or three way valves.

Add a RIB relay to a regular ZVR or ZSR.

    Or a 3 wire stat.

The high Cv makes it popular with the pump and dump GEO guys & girls.

So I guess incorporating it into a Taco exp ZVC is not so straightforward.

Multiple zones I assume? One way is to add a RIB on every output
of a typical multi zone relay box.

Or use an individual relay, like this on every zone. The second set of contacts (dry) could call the boiler.

The 120V jumper that powers the contacts of the relay needs to be removed.

What kind of flow rates are you needing to zone?

Our Z-one valves have a 7.5 cv. Here is what 10 gpm thru a 7.5 Cv valve looks like for pressure drop.

But 10 gpm in a 3/4 copper tube would be around 7 fps velocity, a bit high for hydronics.

Yes. 3 zones. 2 radiant floor (staple up w/ plates) 1 DHW. Mod- con boiler.
The exp relay prioritizes the hot water and has the boiler boost the output temp.
I temporally hooked up a 1" Z-one valve until the 6442 arrived. 7 loops of 3/8 pert. 230' each loop. A wilo 21 drives the system.
Somehow I thought it was a standard 4 wire zone valve.
