Watts air vents pinging

I notice lots of questions regarding air vents. I had specified vari-valves because they had worked in the past. However, I got Watts for our one-pipe steam system. It's like an out of tune orchestra in my apartment at the end of every heat cycle as the valves ping when they close. Is this true of all vents and I never noticed before? Or is it worth the time and expense to replace the valves with something else?

The new Hoffmans seem to click when they open and close. That stops after several months of use.
