enlarge main vent tapping?

Main vent tapping (see pic) is undersized at 1/4" but my two Gorton #2s get hot and stop rattling when pipe gets hot beneath them. Does that mean they have released all possible air, or could they be shutting too soon due to the undersized tapping? Trying to decide if any advantage to enlarging the tapping. Pipe is 2" and 30 ft. long.

By the time the vents get hot, all the air is out and steam has hit them. How long does it take for the vents to close? At only 30', probably one Gorton #2 would have been enough but may have taken a little longer for steam to get there.0
