We assembled a Smith 19 last year for a mechanical contractor after the existing boiler failed in the church. We do a good number each year for ourselves and other contractors. First thing that I saw, they did not follow the manual for the near boiler piping. They had even capped the blowdowns! The blowdowns were later corrected. it ran all winter and leaked during the summer. The steam supply piping had no double elbows to prevent the header from pulling the boiler apart. There was no blowdown at the rear of the boiler which had 12 sections and could be fatal. They piped the boiler feed into the first section that had the alternate LWC! Luckily, no section was damaged. We took it all apart, changed the gaskets and re-torqued everything and tested at 45 PSI no leaks after 3 days. They first said that it was like that before. But it had failed. I said you have to follow the manual or else. They did it this time.
