Replacing an iron Fireman. Stamp says it was made in 1946. Two-Pipe system. Hoffman 8C traps. No main vents, save the vent pipe on the condensate tank. The ends of the two mains each have a 3/4" line running back to a "B & G #40 Heater" (cast into the body), piped to the boiler, below the water line. What the heck IS this thing? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

You can contact EFM at www.efmheating.com and they will tell you what it is.0

I cannot find the pictures. It was red, about the size of small bread box (turned on end), and had the end-of-main pipes connected to the top. The pipe from the side was piped into the boiler vessel, below the water line. As a total guess, it may have taken a vacuum on the mains, but I don't know how it would have done that.0
