Hi all,
When replacing pressure gauges on steam boilers, what specs do you normally look for? Liquid filled or not? Regular duty or high temp rated?
Thanks!

If this is a residential steam boiler, we typically use a 0-3PSI gauge, like this one: http://www.valworx.com/product/low-pressure-gauge-25-0-3-psi . This gauge actually lets you see the actual pressure when running in the range a steam boiler should operate. Most local codes still require that you also install the typical 0-30 PSI gauge as well and you can do so by Teeing off of a pigtail (looped pipe) on the boiler. These typically have a built in siphon to protect them from steam but they should still be mounted on a pigtail for added protection. liquid/oil filled isn't required although my 0 -30 PSI gauge is oil filled. Just happened to be what was available when I replaced the old one. They just add some additional stability to the needle when there is a lot of vibration.1
