Attaching steam supply valve and spud

What do you guys use to ensure seal from 1)supply pipe to valve
2) spud to bushing ?
Do you you use blue monster and pipe dope?
And if so what make?

You mean the union connection?
Nothing, it should be absolutely clean and lined up correctly. Use Blue monster tape and dope on the threaded NPT connection into the radiator, and onto the pipe but the union it self should be bare. Apply some dope to the threads of the union nut to help lubricate it, but that's all.

I use Slick-Tite Teflon white paste on union threads and a touch behind the nose of the union where the large nut will rotate.
Also, it helps to wiggle the radiator as you tighten the union.

That is a lot of weight to try to move with the union nut, it can use some help.

Perhaps I should have said "jiggle" the rads.

i use blue monster and megaloc paste...or really gummed up threads permetex gasket sealer by itself.
