But just for one very special evening. I'll explain how what The Steam Team did caused ConEd to get nervous and change our steam meter: Hope to see you at our iconic 20 West 44th Street building on June 7.

We'll have fun.

Will the lecture be posted on your or their Youtube channel? I watched your other one form the Society that's posted online, and as someone who in general loves studying history, it in fact was instrumental in getting me hooked onto all this steam love (and thank you, my fascination continues!).

We have a full schedule that week, otherwise I'd be there. And we wouldn't have such a full schedule if it weren't for Dan.

I knew you wouldn't be able to shut the steam off completely. :-)

    Glad to hear of this.

That's why they say " our elders and betters " . How lucky are those to hear one more time from the man who is sharing informative and valuable stories of the industry . Indeed, your name is engraved on our heart forever.

It was a pleasure to see you again Dan, been a long time since I first met you back in the early 1990's at one of your seminars. Thank you for coming out of retirement for the evening. It was also great to finally finally meet Erin, who we've all heard and read about for many years.

As a bonus I got to meet a few members of this site last night, always great to be able to attach a person to their screen name.

Finally I tried to get a decent photo of Dan from my seat, lights were dimmed so the audience could see the screen so not a great photo by any means. However, I could't help but notice the book titles that are behind Dan...."First Man" and "
    Piping."

I think Dan mentioned some new way to modulate the heat coming off a radiator with a cover with flaps or something. Did I understand that right? Where do I find out more?

Will you be sharing the net results of the upgrades to the steam system and the associated reduction? I'm almost certain that there was also a huge increase in human comfort too. Please do share if you can.

    Thanks for all you do.

It's not so much a case of "You got what you paid for", as it is a matter of "You DIDN'T get what you DIDN'T pay for, and you're NOT going to get what you thought you were in the way of comfort". Borrowed from Heatboy.

I will, Mark. We've been on balanced billing, based on the year before we did the work. ConEd will correct that this summer. As soon as I know, I'll share it. Thanks.

    Great night!
Enjoyed seeing Dan again and hearing about the history of that old building. Back in 1989, I took an HVAC class at the Mechanics Institute. I remember sitting in the classroom and looking at the large rads, with the 2 valves and the small tubing wondering how in world does that work.
Before I got my hands on Dan's LAOSH.
And now I have an autographed copy of the new one. Thanks Dan!
Learning is wonderful! Thanks for the great books with all the great stories!
    Best,
    Manny

We had our monthly meeting before my talk. We all dress for those. The officers wear tuxedos. If you get to NYC I'd love to show you around. It's pretty special.
