"We do it all the time and never get any complaints".

Meanwhile, customers complain about banging and spitting vents and their response is "that's just how steam is"

But they never get any complaints!

    /Rant.

Single pipe 392sqft system with an EG-40 rated for 325sqft and it's silent and balanced at all times.

Except for the angle of the reducing tee, that setup looks a lot what was used on my tenant's boiler when it was installed 30 years ago (before I bought the house.) The system riser leads to the original bullheaded tee serving two mains.

I've never had any banging or spitting vents. The heat is quiet and even. The water line is steady. It is a relatively small boiler, and the single boiler riser, at least, meets the manufacturer's specs.

Not by the book, but it seems to work fine. I can't see the need change the piping until the boiler is replaced.

@The Steam Whisperer There's an example for you.
No header, a single riser and not oversized, and it seems to perform ok.

Maybe your headerless plans will work.
