This old trap was found in Fordham University, Bronx, N.Y.

model-d steam trap no4
A friend of my co-worker came across this a couple of weeks ago. I looked it up and apparently there is a valve which can control this trap by changING it's ability to trap low press or high press steam.
Thought it would be of interest.

On our biggest 2 1/2 F&T traps we have tapped fittings which are for a sight glass fitment. Pretty rare it's asked for but we do have the glass tubing to make it.

Is it a straight steam trap? Thought t might be a boiler return trap0

Unfortunately I don't have much info regarding its service. It may have been recently removed but that doesn't mean it was working. It is quite possible, that it has not worked in years like so many main vents on one-pipe steam systems.
Because of the integral valve that is supposed to control the size of the orifice in order to switch from a low press trap to a high press trap, I doubt it was a type of Boiler return trap. My understanding is that boiler return traps were used on low pressure/vacuum vapor systems.0 -

Had a lot of nice features, but probably expensive so maybe it wasn't a big seller.
Like the idea of a gage glass though!!0 -
