missing test lever on safety relief valve

Hi all,

A report from a recent boiler inspection revealed that we're missing a test lever on the safety relief valve. I'm wondering if this is a simple thing to replace or if we should have someone do it. Also wondering where to get a replacement. We have a single pipe, low-pressure steam system.

The safety relief valve is an Apollo model RVS14 (2x2 size, set 15 PSI, cap 2500 lbs/hr). Photos attached.

Thanks for the advice,
Eric

You could fix it and test it, or replace it. It's an easy replacement with the boiler off/no pressure in the system. Any supply house, plumbing supply should have one. Just make sure it's an exact match for PSI-15 psi only. Also make sure the inlet is female threads and it's installed properly.

There was an error rendering this rich post.

Thanks, Steve. The safety valve was recently replaced, actually, maybe 1 1/2 years ago. Does the whole thing need to be replaced or can a test level be added to what we have now?

You could try and call the Apollo rep and ask them about a lever and a cotter pin or whatever secures it. My guess you won't be able to get one due to warranty and liability of repairing an existing valve.

Might be easier just to replace the entire valve

Considering that is only less than 2 years old, it is in a condo apartment I believe, who would have operated/tested it that much that the lever would give up? It could have been defective from the start. Some of these never get the lever lifted. How often is your boiler inspected? Look around for the pieces on the boiler or floor.
