We are re-tubing a 2 pass scotch marine boiler in a wast water treatment plant. They burn the waste methane from the digesters which condenses into sulfuric acid at the cold end of the boiler. We typically use 304L stainless, but the last re-tube only lasted 5 years before they begun to split. Can 316L be used or will that significantly reduce the output of the boiler?

Can the piping be changed so there is no "cold end"? Has a combustion test been performed?--NBC0

There are a lot of choices in stainless steel.
Viessmann is one of the premier boiler manufacturers and in some products they use titanium Ti, stabilized grades.
Cost and workability are other factors. It may be best to contact a stainless manufactures with your application needs.

not sure about the tubes but that waste gas is nasty. They usually run that stuff through scrubbers to dry it out. It's so wet it can help but condense0
