Big Mouth Question for @Sailah

We're working on a Hoffman system with a Return Trap, which uses 1" thermostatic end-of-main traps, piped like this:

These are piped so as to drain the condensate from the steam mains as well as to vent the air. We'd like to upgrade to the 3/4" Big Mouth Crossover Traps, but were wondering if the extra-large valve seats might wire-draw with such a light running condensate load (after the initial start-up when the mains are hot).

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I don't think they will wire draw. It's the same seat as their 1" trap just in a 3/4 body. Should be fine.

Wouldn't it be easier to just use the 1" trap instead of the big mouth in that case?

Single pipe 392sqft system with an EG-40 rated for 325sqft and it's silent and balanced at all times.

Our 1" trap is a 147A, won't provide the venting as a big mouth crossover but you avoid the hassle of getting to size. Could also rebuild what you have there with a new cage unit for the easiest solution.

    You mean the MEPCO 3C?

Yes the big mouth is the 3C seat plug and disc in the 2E body. The crossover traps retain the brass seat while the vents have silicone.
