Great article Jay! I would like to highlight the research done by Jens Ponikau, Buffalo Geothermal & David Bradley, TESS using both TRNSYS and real world applications to characterize the benefits of what we are calling "Direct-to-Load" piping. As illustrated in this drawing - http://www.phoenixenergysupply.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/D2L_System-Concept.pdf. I will be sharing the details of the research at the upcoming IGSHPA Conference in Denver, but the bottom line is that due to the sensitivity of a heat pump COP to water temperatures, this essentially free piping arrangement versus more conventional schemes that return the heat pump heated water back into a buffer tank will improve overall annual energy performance by 10%.John D.
