The problem as I see it is that later/younger generations don't take responsibility for their actions and the consequences of their actions. There will always be someone to clean up their screwups. It's always someone else's fault. Older generations, if they f*cked up, they had no govt and welfare program to fall back on.

Chris, you know when someone uses an umbrella statement about generations. Most people realize there is the good, and the bad in each generation. Most people.

    Gordy,
You do realize umbrella statements are never accurate, right?

I just said that, and I indicated most people understand that also.

I have worked with some great young men who were bright and knowledgeable. They took direction well and were not shy about offering alternative ways of doing things. One of them was at my retirement party at a local pub. He came up to me and thanked me for what I had taught him and for listening to his ideas. Some of the old hands were of the mind that a new guy should do what he is told and keep his mouth shut. That didn't work for me in the army and i did everything I could to stomp it out in the army and in industry. I told him while he was listening to what I said and doing what I told him to do I was learning from him - it was a two way street.

I graduated a technical high school in the 60's , during high school I took 4 years of electronics, 7 years of math (had to take math on the electronics side for the theory). Along with physics and chemistry I also took 4 years of history (that was in addition to the 8 years of history I had in earlier grades). In junior high I took 3 years of civics where we were taught how government works. If you don't take history how can you be expected to understand how we came to be where we are and what forces shaped the world we find ourselves in? BTW history was my favorite class, what I learned in those classes gives me the ability

The only concern I have with some of the younger generation is that their education in history and civics was not what it should be. We subsumed everything to the teaching of math and english so they could pass a **** test, this is what happens when people who don't understand education try to control it. That was a very stupid thing to do and it was our fault for doing it.

Control is slipping from our grasp, we have to do everything we can to make sure the young have to tools to do the job.
