Alrighty, I'm back. I bought 4 of the Maid O Mist 5L vents. I installed them upstairs all with the largest vent installed, hoping that as they closed, it would force more steam further into other radiators. It seemed to work for awhile, BUT, of course on the coldest days so far those radiators stopped heating altogether. I took the vents off & all of them had water pour out of them. A few minutes after removing vents, the radiators started to heat. Please help with a next step. I have read the links provided, these radiators have safely heated this house for at least 20 Years with no radiator vents, just very expensively.

Try using smaller orifices, say 5 or 6. The steam may be entering those vents so fast that the water can't drain.

I thought the radiators towards the end of the mains should have more venting. I can put smaller vents in them & see if that changes anything.

location of the radiator should not affect selection of the vent.
You should properly vent the mains thru vents on the mains. The radiator vent should only vent the air in the takeoff/riser/and radiator.

Don't believe the pics that Gorton shows for selection of radiator vents, if that's what you're refering to.
