First let me thank Dan for keeping my signin for the last decade or so, I was sure glad to see I was still out there. Second thanks to everyone else for all the help when I first got the house with steam neat. No I've got a few new questions. The first one is the sealant used to seal the boiler block to the combustion chamber. This appears to be furnace cement. If it's not furnace cement what is it. The second one regards water. I have both raw well water and conditioned water in my house. Should I be using the conditioned water (softener, sediment filter and rust removal system) or straight well water? As you can probably tell the well water has a fair amount of dissolved minerals in it. The last question is does anyone know where I can buy hernia insurance because me thinks I might need it after wrastling a 400+ pound block of cast iron.
