I'm sure a lot of you have seen this already. Thought it was a neat video showing water hammer.

Surprised @ChrisJ hasn't called them to get piping made for his boiler.0

A picture is worth 1,000 words, a moving picture is worth a LOT more.

Back in 2011 when I was installing my boiler with my dad, we had both considered pyrex tubing for the header. I think I was quoted something like $5K for the piping.Abracadabra said:Surprised @ChrisJ hasn't called them to get piping made for his boiler.
It didn't happen for obvious reasons.
I just wanted the risers, header and equalizer to be glass. Is that too much to ask?Single pipe 392sqft system with an EG-40 rated for 325sqft and it's silent and balanced at all times.

Love that someone made that setup, glad I wasn't paying for it!
Nice video!
I didn't realize the shock waves generated by steam collapse could be quite so energetic, think they said up to 1000 bar!?
I think we can all say with certainty, that if any of us had obscene amounts of money, we would all install an all glass steam system in our house. From risers to radiators, can you imagine? would definitely take a lot of maintenance to keep the glass clean, but hey, if one of us had that kind of money what else would we do with our time? I am pretty sure I could be happy just walking around watching steam boil, condense, return, boil, over and over again. Maybe that's just me though......0 -
The inside of the glass should stay really clean since it's be steam cleaned constantly. I equate it to my sight glass with the blow down. Close the bottom valve and open the blow down (while steaming) and the sight glass is instantly crystal clear.
The header would definitely be the coolest thing to watch.1
