I know you mentioned AO Smith's manifold kits, but I used to pipe multiple heaters/tanks like AO Smith recommended, but recently switched to reverse return and prefer it, especially for more than two. Just sayin..0

everyone other than ao smith shows reverse return on their install manuals.

Another option would be to use balancing valves
A couple 132 quicksetters works well as you can view the exact flow in both tanks. Saves piping and fittings and related labor, insulation and heat loss. Idronics 17 on page 24 has an example
