Pressure gauge locations

If a heat exchanger has an entering pipe approximately 2.5 feet lower than the leaving pipe, yet they share a common pressure gauge 4" below the higher pipe, does a correction need to be made for elevation differences in the piping? I don't believe you do because it is a common gauge that is stationary. There is a small line between the entering and leaving pipes that have shut-off valves to isolate the supply and return. Please verify! Thanks!
