Thanks @Paul S. You ain't kidding see them almost every day. Wow now it's going to cost them at least double to get things right. I get those phone calls to all the time on jobs that I lost to a contractors that completely hacked the system and they want me to fix it with a quick fix I just laugh when they say that0

So I'm gathering this is what you do? Lol and it seems you do your "prepiping" at night alot of times.
So when you break down someone else's work do you ever reuse any of their parts?0 -
Correct this what I do. It's the only time I have to spare to do any prepiping.
If there is anything quality, which most of the time there isn't anything quality2 -
@EzzyT ....how much time do you save on an install prepiping....ASM Mechanical Company

I don't know anything about steam but i would like to.
So why is it that the drop header is so important? Is this a new trick or an old one? It seems you alot of you guys on here replace "basic" piping with these drop headers.0 -
Pick up yourself some of @Dan Holohan books, drop header helps with creating dry steam by allowing gravity to separate the water droplets out of the wet steam entering the header. Size of the header and risers coming off of the boiler into the header is just as important.
We're trying to slow the steam down and lower feet per second that the steam travels out of the boiler.
It's a old trick, the dead men used it to get the B dimension (28") from the bottom of the first swing joints to the boiler water line in low clearance applications the drop header allowed them to get the header below the steam mains.0 -
I have pumping away which was a pretty good read. I'm more on the hot water side of things and a novice just playing around in my garage at that. Steam scares me abit. Lol
You do good work by the way. Keep it up.0 -
Nice work as always Ezzyt.
I'm starting to learn that steam isn't the only thing being hacked all the time. Seems like every system out there is.
Single pipe quasi-vapor system. Typical operating pressure 0.14 - 0.43 oz. EcoSteam ES-20 Advanced Control for Residential Steam boilers. Rectorseal Steamaster water treatment1 -
I watch a lot of machining videos and one of my favorites is Keith Fenner. His shop labor rate sign is awesome and made me think of you guys out there doing good work.EzzyT said:Repiping a boiler that was just put in about a month or so ago.
It says:
Shop Labor Rate
It's not the cost of the repair
It's the cost of the damage you caused
And my favorite I have hanging in my office

So out of curiosity did you quote the job originally? What happened to the original contractor that messed it up?EzzyT said:Repiping a boiler that was just put in about a month or so ago.

No homeowner posted on here about his disaster, contractor bailed after homeowner asked them to change the boiler since it was way oversized and repipe it properly.0
-
Ah yes I remember that one.0

-
Given the boiler size and the load, it seems you must. It's sad they paid money for what they got. It's good you are fixing it for them. I wish we could find out the name of the contractor who did it so we can steer people away from their hackery.0
-
Yeah I know it is a shame. There's always going to be hacked around0
