Replacing an old indirect water heater that had the coil piping connections below the water line of the boiler with one that has the connections above the water line. What should the piping look like and what components should we be installing.
Thanks for your help.

you can pipe it the same way above the water line. make sure you dont use an air vent.....preferably use a bronze circulator pump away from boiler and pipe a bypass to mix return water from indirect with supply off boiler....make sure the pump is well below the water line. also make sure you have a aquastat to prevent boiler from making steam when there isnt a call for heatASM Mechanical Company

I wouldn't pipe an indirect or hydronic loop above the water line of a steam boiler. If you can get one tapping below the water line you can use that for your supply and then return into your wet return piping.Contact John "JohnNY" Cataneo, NYC Master Plumber, Lic 1784

You don't need a bypass piping if your going with a heat exchanger or indirect tank just like in this set up0

i was saying make the boiler connections below the water line, then connect to the indirect tank thats above the water line .....best way to do it is use a heat exchanger....
