Low Pressure Steam Stop Check Valve

I have a situation where a Hurst Fire Box steam boiler has been provided on a job. The boiler is for low pressure steam heating system (below 10psi). It was recommended to install a Crane 28E Stop Check valve on the steam outlet nozzle of the boiler. Now that the valve is on site, it has been realized that the valve is a 300lb flange pattern and the boiler is a 150lb flange. I don't believe that a corrective spool piece is allowed by code.
So the question is, is it acceptable to install a gate valve and then a globe check valve above it in order to get the same thing accomplished as the Stop Check.
Anybody have any insight on this? Thanks so much!
