Hi,

I'm posting this question for my dad.

He has a Utica Boiler model # SFH4150WL installed 7/1999. During the tuneup this month, the tech noticed a crack in the firebox.
He said he could replace the firebox initially, but is recommending swapping out the whole unit for
a new Slant Fin boiler.

Question: 1. Is it possible to replace the firebox?
2. Is it worth it replace the firebox to get another 3-5 years out of it?

Thanks for your opinions.

Anthony

First of all, you missed the highlighted line at the top of the page that says we do NOT discuss pricing on this forum.

Yes, the firebox can be replaced. But at this point, you might want to look at the boiler's overall condition, and you need more than the usual oil-burner guy to do it. Where are you located?

Would be nice to see the crack he's referring to. The star fire was a good boiler, like frank said, it would depend on the current overall condition of the boiler to help decide.
