Sewer clean out

I'm having a hard time removing a 3" brass clean out plug, I'm planning to cut it out but this time I want to use a sch40 pvc plug, are the threads the same? will it work? Or I'm stuck using a brass type again

Should be standard NPT threads, so any plug will work. I use 6-8 wraps of heavy gauge PTFE tape (Blue Monster, the pink waterworks stuff, or yellow gas tape) and no dope.

Yep threads should be same. cold chisel and a mini sledge hammer that brass plug will come right out. I usually punch a hole through the plug near the edge (avoid the threads) and then carefully position the chisel on the edge of the plug pointed in towards the hole I just made and collapse it inwards.

Definitely second the excesive PTFE use, makes life easy. Is this in a tapped cast iron tee?
