If you've found help on The Wall, pay it forward and help someone else by donating to Oil Heat Cares here. We've got a month to reach our goal. Let's do it!

@Harvey Ramer - Thank you for your generous donation to OHC! Awesome!

@NY_Rob - It doesn't look like OHC has a PayPal option for donations. Here is the address if you'd like to send a check instead of donating via GoFundMe:

    Oil Heat Cares
    P.O. Box 67
    East Petersburg, PA 17520

    Thanks!

    Thanks Erin...

Kicked in a few $$ via CC.

IMO- they'd get more donations if they accepted PayPal.

Hey, guys. Please join us with a few bucks if you can afford it.

Judy Garber and I came up with the idea of Oil Heat Cares while drinking wine on the Acela Express between NYC and Boston many years ago. The 501c charity has helped so many people in need over the years. I'm proud of Erin for getting behind it with her walk at the Oil Heat Retreat next month.

I'm also so proud of Erin's twin, Colleen, who took my place on the Oil Heat Cares board. She was the inspiration for Oil Heat Cares. When she graduated from Providence College in 2003 she went into a summer program at Harvard. They were bringing in a bunch of recent graduates from across the country to live together in an old frat house and explore the aspects of leadership. A week before they were to move in they learned that the frat house didn't have a working water heater, and that most of the sinks and toilets were broken. Those in charge thought they would have to abandon the program.

Colleen called and asked if I could help. This was just before the Memorial Day weekend. I asked here on The Wall for a donation of an 80-gallon, gas-fired water heater. By the end of the day, we had three. We took the first one offered. I also needed a licensed plumber to do the work. Three guys, Paul Lessard, Chuck Shaw, and Gary Wallace showed up. Paul pulled the ticket and the guys went to work on that Saturday. I bought the beer and fetched stuff. The young people also took instruction from the Masters and did what was asked. We finished the job in a day and they all had a very good summer.

So I talked to Judy on that train ride about what's possible when good people get together, volunteer some time, and others work to raise money to buy equipment. What resulted, with the dedication of many wonderful people, was Oil Heat Cares.

So, if you can, please show my wonderful daughters some support and donate a few bucks. It will feel very good. The link is in her post at the top. Thanks!
    Retired and loving it.

Here's an excerpt from an article about the great work OHC is doing for those in need:

"Leonard Bruso, one of the owners of the West Springfield-based business [Baystate Fuel Oil], recently met a young mother in Springfield in a desperate situation and with the help of the non-profit Oil Heat Cares was able to install a brand new boiler just in time for Thanksgiving."

"When I met the customer she was in a really tough position," he said. "We tried to repair it, but we just couldn't fix her boiler. She did not have the means to pay for a new boiler, so we decided it was the right thing to do to step up and do this for her."

The woman who received the boiler lives in Springfield with her young son. She asked to remain anonymous, but said she was overwhelmed with the company's generosity.

"We typically assist people who fall through the cracks. They must own their own home and have recently lost a job, are coming back from military, are elderly folks or people who do not qualify for traditional government fuel assistance programs," says Judy Garber. "We hope this will help them get back up on their feet."
