As a member of The General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen of the City of New York, I attended the Independence Day celebration this week. One of our members read the entire Declaration of Independence, and with great passion at that gatherinc. When he was done, he said, "Each time I do that, I get more and more pissed at King George."

The members of GSMT, founded in 1792, have been reading the Declaration of Independence on or about July 4 every year since 1793. I get the chills when I think of that and I am so honored to be member.

I wish every American would put aside the beer and the fireworks for 15 minutes or so this weekend to read aloud that beautiful document to friends and family.

God bless America.
Retired and loving it.

I have a small book I bought a long time a go with a lot of those documents up to and including Lincoln's major addresses. When things get especially silly it helps to reread them so I can refresh my faith n this grand "experiment".

Thank you for calling it the holiday that it is... Independence Day.
So tired of hearing most people call it the 4th of July or The 4th.
    That's just a date.
It akin to calling a Boiler a furnace....
Call me a stickler but that me. No apologies.
