Need some advice on HVAC air handler options

Hey guys so I'm turning my attention to the ductwork and trying to come up with a plan of attack. Let me know if I am missing anything, or whether doing any of these steps is low bang for buck for the work.
1) closing any obvious open holes with metal tape
2) insulating ducts and plenums where I can
3) changing mismatched flex and boots (there are some 8" flex attached to 6" or 7" boots
4) pulling flex tight and strapping so that it hangs straight
5) peeling back the insulation from the metal duct joints and metal taping (or using mastic if I'm really into it :P)
I would also like to replace as much flex with metal as time and funds allow. But how do I go about figuring out the ideal duct diameter? I have the option to replace boots if needed. I just don't want to spend time and money to build a less-than-ideal solution.
Thanks as always for your great info!0 -
I would get a duct calculator, just to get a good idea of what sizes should go to each register. Usually 6" are bathrooms. If you're runs are too large in diameter it will be bad for your static pressure. Hope that helped.0
