Steam Radiator Placement

How far off a finished wall should I place my steam radiator? As of now I have it placed 3 1/2'' of the finished wall, but my wife wanted it closer, so I was able to get it about a 1/2'' off the wall. I feel that is to close to the wall. Is there a standard placement away from a wall?

The usual distance was 2" off the finished wall. If you're that close, you might want to put an insulating board on the wall while leaving a small air space between the wall and the radiator.

All of mine have the legs touching the shoe molding. If I had to guess, I'd say they're about an inch maybe 1.5" tops off of the wall.

All of mine are about 3" off of the wall. You should be able to look at the rest of the radiators in the house but I personally would keep them a couple inches off the wall.
