Yes it is a SharkBite. I suspect it is aimed toward the DIY that wants a flameless installation.

Still, many of the humidifiers ship with those crappy saddle valves, this is a nicer component, and it would work on pex also, saddle valves are not so comfortable on pex but we have all seen it tried.

Along with those stupid flexible drain connectors they sell at the home improvement stores?

If stuff automatically violates code it should be illegal for a store to sell it in the specific area. For example S traps.
