Power Vent Water Heater Photos

Hello: I have a friend who is writing a book, and he's looking for good, high resolution photos of an installed power vent water heater. As it's for a book, he doesn't want to simply find a photo on the internet. If someone can get some photos of the entire tank and tank top to me, I'd be glad to send a copy of my book, "The Water Heater Workbook" or a DVD on my house or water heating as a thankyou. Please let me know if you might have or can get these photos. Thanks!

Yours, Larry

    What an offer!

Every plumber should have a copy of The Water Heater Workbook, by the way.

I have a Richmond 50 gallon power-vent water heater...pretty sure it was installed in 2004 and it's still running strong (we bought the house in 2011).

I can certainly snap some pictures if you like...I'll try to post them tomorrow morning.

Amazing what havoc you can create with 3 increasers, some flex, some duct tape and a clamp!

It was the first time I ever installed a water heater, but feel free.
The vent pipe is out of plumb and it still pisses me off 5 years later. The T&P is also slightly off, but I didn't want to mess with it after it was tight. Don't mind the dirt floor. :disappointed:

This is mine...I didn't install it, and I've never had to mess with it. It's a 50 gallon Richmond NG unit...even with my twin girls taking their long showers we don't run out of hot water. The power vent transitions to 3" pvc for the loooong total run of 30" and 2-90*s. And it's sloped down to the outside.

I'd be tempted to replace it with the same when it finally dies (12 years old now) but I have my heart set on an indirect. We'll see how long she lasts - we have really good water here.

Life is now wonderful!! I'll direct my author friend to this thread and see how happy it makes him. JUGHNE, I think we're looking for single pipe venting. Who would like a Water Heater Workbook, or a DVD on hot water or efficient home building? Thankyou All! B)

Wouldn't pass inspection here, but every jurisdiction is different.

    Which ones?

I know mine lacks a vacuum breaker and expansion tank required in some areas.

Plastic pipe directly connected to heater is a no-go here.

The requirement for an expansion tank is driven by the upstream piping. Any kind of check valve (including a PRV or backflow preventer) upstream and you install one.

This type of exp tank makes sense for DHW, to avoid trapped water stagnating.

    Yeah,
I'm on city water with no obstructions.

The reasoning behind not running Pex to the water heater was put in place for natural draft water heaters. The Pex would be subject to being too close to a hot Tín flue pipe. This condition wouldn't occur with power vented units.
