CO alarm went off at low level

Earlier this evening the CO alarm in my garage went off. I ran down from upstairs, thinking it was probably the smoke alarm, but it's the CO alarm showing 40 ppm on its display. Okay, I thought to myself: I don't have to hold my breath. I opened the garage door, checked the boiler and found the burner was rather off at that time (exhaust pipe runs through the garage), the alarm went away after five minutes but I don't know what might have triggered it.

If a car wasnt running in the garage....i would shut the boiler down and have a professional come out to perform a combustion analysis with an electronic combustion analyzer. .

I mean the boiler was not on at that time, so the pipe was not carrying flue gas. I drove my car back about half an hour prior to the alarm went off but I don't think I left the car running in the garage.
    I am in New York.

Is there a standing pilot? I would do as Paul S suggests and have someone come out and check it out.

    Nope, and everything's looking normal.
