Spray motor oil on the inside of the boiler? Is this done?

U.S. Boilers manual says to spray down the inside of the chamber with motor oil during the summer if the boiler is not used. Is this a common practice?

I assume they mean the exterior of the boiler fired surfaces.
(There could be more clarification in their wording)

FWIW......A 1961 Kewanee owners book for steel fire tube boilers recommends at the end of the heating season to clean all FIRE surfaces and tubes and coat with mineral oil such as crankcase drainings.

The 1961 boiler that came with that book has never had that done to the fire chambers. It has never had any tube work done and shows no evidence of any leaks. It is always full of water under pressure except for inspections every 4 years.......but it is not in a basement......on grade in a dry room all year around.
