Water Heater Vapor Sensor failure

Anyone seen many issues with the sensors taking a nap? We had a guy call Sunday AM, no hw in a 2 month old PV Rheem. No nothing in the area of the water heater for chemicals and the like. We popped a new one in Monday morning (now I will stock a couple), but curious what's up with that. Vendor posed question to rep but was just told "check the ohms"
Thanks, Gary
