Hot water options for steam heat system

My current home heating system is a 70yr old steam system, and there is a separate oil fired hot water boiler providing the household hot water. I am planning to replace the steam boiler this spring. So far the quotes all include an indirect hot water storage tank, which would remove the old oil fired hot water system. Is it worth looking at another form of hot water heating system (heat pump) for the summer months when I do don't want to be running the main boiler, or should I just not mess about with the idea of taking the oil burner off line for the summer months?
