Board repair on Aquastat L8148E

My Buderus furnace shut down and I found that jiggling the damper plug would get it to come back on. From other people's comments in various places, I determined that the solder on the board must be cracked.
I pulled the board and it was indeed cracked. I carefully put little droplets of fresh solder around the five pins behind the damper plug, put everything back together and it fired up without issue. However, there is a piece of cardboard that was on the back of the board that I just found, that I forgot to put back in place. Is that particularly important or just to keep dust out?
Is that a safe fix (can't see why it's not) or is a new board in order?

Thanks!
