Chemical Cleaning Question

So, I read up on the cleaning chapter of Lost Art - and it said something about not using chemicals for boilers where the hot water is used in cooking establishments. We aren't a cooking establishment (just a home). We have a Weil McLain where we use the hot water for showers, washing hands, etc., and I know the system needs cleaning pretty badly (gauge glass is looking really brown with condensate, and I still have to skim it).
So I'm wondering if using tablets, or some sort of cleaning stuff in our boiler is ng, or if it's ok.
Thanks!
Marcus

Rectorseal Steamaster Tablets are great!
But research them on the archives as far as usage, and never follow the directions printed on the bottle. Keeps my muddy water nice are purple-pink clean..0 -
Now I'm trying to figure out how to put them IN the boiler.... the skim port is not accessible... can I drop them into the gauge glass and close it up? Will that work??0
