Insulating Flu Pipes.

The conversation came up today should you install insulation on the fresh air intake piping for 90% plus equipment. I don't think I've ever seen it done, but have any of you guys done so? Is it really worth it if the runs are long?

    The only times I've ever had to do that was and when I've had to pipe both flue and fresh air to the outside of the building and beyond the 4' max of piping allowed in order to get the proper clearances but never have to do that on any of the piping inside of the building

    If your fresh air is running thru any unconditioned space you should insulate in those areas to prevent condensing in the fresh air intake. Seen it many times. Worse thing is for that moisture to hit gas valves and wiring harnesses.

    Sounds like it's not a bad idea to insulate the fresh air intake on longer runs even if it's a unconditioned basement.
