Weil McLain CG-6-PION igniter keeps clicking for 60 seconds even after boiler has fired

Hi,
My Weil McLain CG boiler igniter fires the boiler on the first click, but continues clicking for an extended time after boiler is lit. Just started doing this. Igniter was replaced last season. System runs well except for this.
Thanks for the help,
Paul

  • It could be the ignition control module (ICM) going bad. Once the pilot is lit, it sends a signal in the form of DC volts back to the ICM which is supposed to stop sparking to the pilot and turn on the main gas valve. Perhaps a sticky relay to the spark circuit in the ICM.

    Alan,
Thanks. Talked with Weil McLain this morning and thought the ICM could be the cause as well. Can't replace it right now, is there any harm in leaving it in for a few weeks?

control module could fail completely leaving you with no heat.
your call to change it now or wait. if the spark relay is sticking closed, it could just as easily stick open.
