I've read several other books by Henry Petroski, Engineering is Human, and The Evolution of Useful Things, thanks to Dale P.
This current book looks at some of the major failures and causes, bridges, space shuttles, Big Digs, etc. It should appeal to this group.

Looks like a great read.
A few years ago some men were killed working on the Boston Harbor sewage outfall pipe. These men were technical divers that were put into an impossible situation by a boss who thought he knew a lot more than he did.

I've talked with the author, he did a great job of explaining how horribly wrong things get when you assume things. It's a cautionary tale that is well worth reading.
