Poppy and Brian knocked this one out earlier this week. A one pipe system with a 45-year old American Standard gas boiler.

Out of curiosity, what's the nipple coming (vertically) before the relief valve. Is it a chemical adding station?

You are correct. It is for chemicals.

Nice install Dan. I am curious about the cement work. How do you pour a cement slab on a retrofit job and not waste time waiting for it to dry? After all the customer needs heat.

We use quick-set cement and pour the housekeeping pad immediately after demo. The boiler is piped to the side while it sets up.

By afternoon, we can set the boiler on the pad and continue piping. The second day is for trim out, controls, wiring and cleaning/skimming. I figure two days for a change-out and price accordingly.

We got lucky on this one - the weather was mild and the house had a heat pump system in an addition to provide residual heat.
