...and it's only November. This older WM had a runaway burner, plugged fill valve, and no LWCO. We re-piped it, re-wired it, made it a lot safer, and a lot quieter.

What's a "runaway" burner?Single pipe quasi-vapor system. Typical operating pressure 0.14 - 0.43 oz. EcoSteam ES-20 Advanced Control for Residential Steam boilers. Rectorseal Steamaster water treatment0

A series of unfortunate events - the normally open contact for the burner circuit on the boiler failed in the closed position, the main limit was grossly inaccurate so it wasn't cutting off the burner until the temperature bottomed out past 220*. To make things far worse, the company who condemned the boiler before I got there lowered the pressure to 0 PSI "so it wouldn't explode", while keeping the boiler in operation. It was a very dangerous situation but the boiler didn't need to be condemned.Steve Minnich0
