Banging pipes in wall - forced hot water heat

Moved into a new house with a 2 year old gas fired forced hot water furnace. When heat comes on (especially at night!) there is non-stop banging in the walls. Had plumber look at system and he said no air in pipes. Expansion tank seems to be ok. I have no idea what to do next. Can anyone suggest a next step?

If you could be much more specific it may get you the answer

non stop?? what are the intervals, and how might it be related to the thermostat (does it happen when the zone is off)

are you positive it's banging and not a creaking ticking noise?

Non stop seems a bit much, tell us more.

How old is the house (how old is the heating system)

Gary - thanks for offering to help.
House was built in 1987 - furnace is 2 years old. Heat is set for 64 degrees overnight.. Once noise starts it seems to go on regularly (last night - at least every 10-15 seconds, night before - every 5 minutes or so). House warms up during day so heat comes on much less and very little noise is present (or at least not noticeable).
Noise is definitely a bang/thud in wall rather than a creaking or ticking noise. Loudness can vary from somewhat soft to rather loud (varies throughout the night).

Sometimes when zone valves reach a certain point of wear, they can close quickly, creating amazing water hammer. Do you have zone valves?
