Hello all long time lurker, this is my first post. I installed a crown cwd220 with DHW . So far everything has gone smooth, but im not sure how to wire up the Taco SR-506. In the directions it say, TT to boiler and TT on boiler with DHW. Im not sure what that means and I am not sure how to hook up the aquastat on the DHW.

It looks like you have the control with LED's. Wire your pump control to the TT terminals for heat the diagram shows them on the bottom marked TT / Heat 1. Wire your indirect to the terminals marked T T DH/Heat2. Page 41 or 43 in the book.0

It all is through the sr506. #6 is the priority zone ...whether you use it or not. For the WH.
Wire the WH aquastat to the relay TT on #6. Low voltage wire.
XX (end switch) on the relay goes back to the boiler. Low voltage wire.
Wire the Circ from the relay to the circs w/ BX
Need to fix the WH circulator... it should be parallel to the ground not vertical.
What type of heating emitters do you have?

That's a lot of boiler there. Did you start with a heat loss load calc.?Steve Minnich0

Good catch on the pump, I was watching a Taco Video and saw that I made that mistake. On my boiler there are two wires ,one is red and marked central heating circuit. The other one is blue and marked DHW circuit, are these the lines that hook to the 120 volt side of the SR506? I am not sure what heat emmiters are, please elaborate.
Thanks for the help!0 -
We did, the house is a old victorian 4500 sq. Feet.0

Emitter is either a radiator, convector, baseboard, air handler, radiant floor.....etc0
-
Basement, first and second floor have radiators. The third floor is baseboard.0

Are you running out door rest? That will change your 24v wiring for DHW.0

No outdoor reset, I was thinking about adding that later. How does that change things, I haven't done any research.
Jason, o you think the boiler is too big?0 -

At this point your right. My apologies.
On the other hand critiquing installs will be helpful to others to reinforce certain aspects. That may be lurking now, or come across a thread later in a search.

Absolutely, critiquing is a great tool if you back it with useful information. You posted twice a neither time was there any information, so someone "lurking" would learn nothing. Just my thoughts from a non professional HVAC guy. I would like to thank
the first few posts so far your insight really helped. Any thoughts good or bad would greatly be appreciated.0 -
Thanks Hatteras. On the Taco Sr506-exp box the ZC and the ZR slots are they mainly for the high efficiency units.0

You didn't offend me, I just don't understand why you replied to my post again. It is no secret that my knowledge base in this field is small, that is why I am here. You said that the boiler is likey twice the size that I need ok, please help me understand. If you have no interest in sharing your knowledge, then just pass on these type of posts. This house has 54 windows, two sliding doors, 4 entry doors ,mostly un insulated and about half the windows have been upgraded. I truly want to understand the system ,and the thery behind it.0

We are sharing our knowledge, but we still don't have enough of the specifics to offer solid advice.
An oversized boiler will short cycle (turn on and off in rapid succession.) This wastes fuel, is hard on the boiler, and makes balancing the system difficult.
Has a heat loss calc been done?
What are your fuel costs like?

I had a HVAC contractor do the heat loss,he did all the calculations and measured the house out. The house had a 300,000 btu boiler and in the coldest months it ran us around 500 a month. I also did my own heat loss measuring walls windows and came in the same neighborhood.0
-
I do not have his measurments, if you guys let me know and are willing, I will post everything . This would be interesting to see what we come up with, let me know what is needed and I will post it tomorrow. I know we didn't use my fuel bill in the calculations.0

According to the OP, the old boiler was 300,000 BTUH input, and the new Crown is 220,000. If nothing else, that's progress. All Steamed Up, Inc.

To the op, you did get help here and always will...often we talk back and forth to each other, during certain posts....and yours was one of them...you sound very savy, do this, post the heat loss that was accomplished prior to the install, if you can....I think you will be a bit surprised how over sized your boiler is...As for wiring, I suggest call or go to the taco web site0
