I went past a buddies home today. He purchased the home with a modcon this summer. Its my new toy to tinker with since I like dialing them in. Hes happy because I come visit and lower his bills. Win win for him.
Very loose home, wood shingles are in bad shape. Bedrooms over an unheated garage with mediocre insulation between the garage and bedroom floors. 32f out here, baseboard heated home. 142f target. Boiler is 110mbh, too large for this home. boiler hits target, jumps down till about 120, turns back on. Works well. If only I can spread the dt across the baseboard. its pegged at 5degrees.

So, my answer, no it doesnt need 180. but it does need a specific velocity to scrub heat out of the water.

Baseboard has different outputs for different AWT, average water temperature, in the baseboard. Lowering entering water temperature you effectively lower AWT, and lowering baseboard output as well, to match heat loss from the space heated.

Yep,there is just to many guys who don't believe in low water temps.ODR does give a nice comfortable heat.

It took many years, but heat emitter manufacturers are finally showing output performance at a various supply temperatures. This should help understand lower temperature operation potential.
