Taco Flow Check

Have a 1" flow check on boiler return from indirect water heater that feels as if it is not fully holding. Should the knerled nut on top of the check valve be turned all the way down or all the way up?

I think it would be more accurate to say, counter clock-wise, all the way, puts the valve in operation. Although I wasn't able to find that information in any of Taco's documents.

Thanks, I thought "closing" it was the correct was to set it, but I couldn't find any information on it in any of the Taco info either. I figured the install/operational sheet must've fallen out at the supply house. I'll try to run it down all the way and see if that works. It's definitely passing hot water though.

Tacohvac.com... Turned full CCW sets flow check into operation. Full CW raises the stem off the seat to Allow for gravity heat flow.

Not a fan of Taco glow check .B&G I think it is makes a beautiful bronze check with a dial on front for manual or auto

So, let me get this straight, by turning the knerled little knob atop the flow check CC, as if to close a hose bib, I am opening the flow chech to not function as a check valve? In order to have it function as a check valve, I turn it CCW, as if opening a hose bib to let the water flow? One would think they would either include paperwork with the flow check of imprint instructions on the valve itself. Just my opinion.

No. Turn it down, cw, as if you were closing a valve. This lets the check weight settle on its seat, and enables the check function. When you unscrew the stem, it raises the weight and disables the check function. You do not have to crank hard on the stem when "closing" it. The knurled handle should contact the packing nut. Give the packing nut a slight tightening when you're done messing with things.

If you have to raise the check, usually when the knob is about 3/8 or so off the packing nut, that's sufficient for gravity flow.

Still amazes me that people install this check valve. The corrosion alone after a couple of years is enough to put me off.Guess thats why we have checks in circs now even though they can be problematic.Turn it all the way down and hopefully check will work.Watch out for packing drips.

attached is the instruction sheet to clear up any ambiguity on the operation of the heat motor zonevalve.

Why do you continue to make air scoops where maybe 1 in 50 are installed correctly and blatantly have made in India embedded on it.The 4900 air eliminator is a great product it just baffles me that Taco associates itself with these products.
